GUT HEALTH MATTERS TO YOUR DOG
Your dog’s small intestine and colon are home to trillions of bacteria and microorganisms. These bugs are so critical to his health, they control most of his immune system … and can even talk directly to his brain.
These friendly bacteria eat starches and fibers your dog can’t digest and use them to manufacture beneficial metabolytes for your dog, such as his B vitamins, vitamin K, short chain fatty acids that control his immune system and inflammation, and amino acids. They also help protect your dog’s gut lining.
This delicate balance of bugs can be disrupted by the wrong food, drugs and chemicals, heavy metals and antibiotics. This can allow harmful bacteria to colonize and their metabolytes cause inflammation in the gut lining. This is called dysbiosis.
The gut lining is single layer of cells with tight spaces between. When the gut is inflamed, these spaces widen. This allows undigested protein, harmful bacteria and other inflammatory factors to escape the digestive tract and enter the body.
This is called Leaky Gut. Because the toxins circulate the body and cause chronic, low-grade inflammation, leaky gut can cause chronic organ disease if not corrected.

Absolutely … Four Leaf Rover’s probiotic products are all beneficial in their own ways. Protect is a soil based probiotic that supports your dog from pesticides and heavy, while Bifido For Fido has specific, veterinarian formulated strains to help with occasional loose stools. Both have their own strengths, but can be helpful when you need them.
What should I use Gut Guard for?
Gut Guard is veterinarian formulated to support a normal, healthy gut lining and flora. Exposure to pesticides, chemicals and processed foods can all harm the gut lining, which can allow unwanted toxins to escape the gut and wreak havoc on your dog. Gut Guard will support a normal gut lining.
How long should my dog use Gut Guard for?
Gut Guard is intended to manage a normal gut lining. A “leaky” gut will often trigger the immune system and you may see the impact on your dog’s skin, organs and digestive tract. Once you see a more balanced immune response, then we recommend keeping your dog on Protect afterward.
Gut Guard should not be given for more than 60 days at a time. Alternate it with Protect until you see the results you want.

Four Leaf Rover Gut Guard is a combination of herbs I was familiar with, but never before have I found them all in a single supplement. I have a dog who has taken daily prednisone for 6 1/2 of her seven years. She has an auto immune disease and without the prednisone she would die. Long term use of the steroid has many horrible side effects, But with the right supplements the side effects have so far been minimal. I started using Gut Guard about five months ago, when my girl had a flareup of her disease and ultrasound showed that many of her organs were inflamed. This included her stomach and intestines. Of course I used sucralfate four times a day to heal the lesions that it could reach, and then I started giving her Gut Guard twice daily, hoping it would rebuild and strengthen the lining of her stomach and intestines. IT WORKED, even though she had to continue taking the prednisone. That is really something! It’s an extra blessing that the flavor of the herbs does not disagree with her. She eats it right up! (I tasted it and it’s really not bad at all.) I choose to continue using Gut Guard for ten days out of each month for maintenance, because symptoms of her autoimmune flareup are subtle until it becomes an emergency. I’m thankful that I now have a supplement that can save her so much suffering by maintaining her healthy gut lining. The bonus: with Gut Guard, she can now eat small amounts of raw veggies and chew on raw meaty bones — she missed out on those delights all her life because her GI system was not up to the challenge. It’s such a joy to hold a special treat before her and see her dear face light up! (I think Gut Guard has added some brightness to her eyes as well!) Thanks so much, Four Leaf Rover peeps!
